Please forward as you see fit, and give a call if you have any questions. As of today, it appears that the risk is low, but we are awaiting a geotechnical report from Snowcap Coal Co., Inc. to further assess the situation. We also sent the note, and have been communicating with, the Kokopelli Farm Market, CDOT and Mesa County and State Offices of Emergency Management. The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) is currently working with Snowcap Coal Co., Inc. to assess a developing situation that may pose a public health and safety risk. It appears that water is accumulating behind the mine portal seal and backfill at the Roadside Mine, South Portal location. I include an image of the site for your reference. There may exist a potential for a water and debris discharge if the portal seal /backfill fails. This would potentially impact property and /or people below the location. The portal is located above the Kokopelli Farm Market, and the adjacent 1 -70 on /off ramps. Snowcap Coal Co., Inc. has engaged a geotechnical expert, and we expect word from their expert sometime tonight or tomorrow. We cannot quantify the risk of a discharge at this time, but thought it best to inform you of the situation.
