Subsidence Handbook Volume III, Exhibit 15
GROUNDWATER
Introduction
Groundwater within the Mesaverde formation has been found to be of low quality, and
limited extent, occurring only as isolated perched water bearing zones. These zones are
not currently exploited and, because of their limited extent, have no potential for future
development.
Worst Case Damage
Disruption of perched water bearing zones will occur due to mining where they lie in the
immediate vicinity of the mine roof. Because of the nature of this groundwater, this does
not constitute any effect on groundwater resources.
Pre - Damage Monitoring
Bowie Resources will monitor mine inflows. The localized perched zones typically drain
quickly and are of very low flows. This information will be presented in the "Annual
Subsidence and Hydrology Report".
Post - Damage Monitorinq
Post - damage monitoring will be conducted like the pre- damage monitoring.
Mining Techniques
Longwall or conventional room - and - pillar mining with pillar extraction will be used
throughout the permit area. This will affect the local perched water bearing zone, but will
have no effect on water utilization.
Repair Procedure
The local perched water - bearing zones would be disrupted, but are limited in extent and
are not put to beneficial use. No effect on area water utilization is anticipated.
PR -14 40 03/14
