2.05.6(6)
Springs is decreed for 44.8 gpm. The springs are located in colluvial
deposits and all are at least 800 feet above the coal seam to be mined. The
water bearing colluvial deposits, the water source of the springs, are
relatively small extending from the spring no furtherthan the major ridge lines
that separate the ephemeral channels in which the springs are located. The
affect of subsidence is not predicted to extend into the ephemeral channels
which are the source of ground water flow for the springs. Therefore, the
springs should not be affected by mining.
The Pitkin Mesa Pipeline approximately parallel's Steven's Gulch. The
original pipeline built in 1938, collects water from a series of springs located
north of the permit boundary. During various times the original pipeline (4-
inch diameter steel) has been replaced by a 6" diameter PVC pipeline. The
pipeline services approximately 160 domestic taps on Pitkin Mesa.
The USDA -FS has ten decreed water rights within the permit boundary. See
following table and Map 23. Eight of the water rights are ponds and two are
springs and ponds. One of the ponds, water rights 84, has not been field
verified or monitored by the Operator. Water right 93 is a pond for which the
USDA -FS is unable to ascertain a location. Four of the USDA -FS water
rights have been assigned a range improvement inventory number (RIIN).
Water Right Summary
Water Right
Spring /Pond Designation
Decree
Date Owner
81
Pond 33 -11
0.1 AF
12/31/1970 FS
82
Pond 33 -10
0.1 AF
12/31/1965 FS
84 MIN 805P24
Sheep Corral Pond
0.1 AF
12/31/1965 FS
85 MIN 805P24
Pond P33 -7
0.1 AF
12/31/1970 FS
86
Pond 33 -3
0.1 AF
12/31/1970 FS
87 MIN 805P36
Spring and Pond SP34 -11
0.001 CFS
12/31/1965 FS
92 MIN 805P37
Spring and Pond SP34 -2
0.001 CFS
12/31/1962 FS
93
Pond - Unknown Location
0.1 AF
12/31/1962 FS
96
Flat Tanks & Pond P36 -1 &2
0.3 AF
None FS
97
E Terror 11 P36 -6
0.1 AF
08/24/1992 FS
USDA -FS water rights 81, 82 and 86 are ponds that are typically dry.
