2.04.11
The effect the mine development will have on the endangered fish species of
the Colorado River Basin is usually determined by estimating the annual
depletion of water from the upper Colorado River caused by the mine
development. The consumptive use of water associated with the mine
includes water used for dust suppression, showers and personal use and
losses due to evaporation.
The following water depletion estimate is prepared for the changes proposed
by permit revision no. 6. This permit action will allow longwall mining at a
production rate not to exceed 6.0 million tons per year.
A. The sole water source for the Bowie No. 2 Mine is water pumped from
the Deer Trail Ditch. Water is pumped from the ditch into a 500,000
gallon water tank. The Operator has the right to pump up to 0.5 cfs
(224.4 gpm) from the ditch.
B. Water Depletion by Category:
Road dust suppression - The haul road at the Bowie No. 2 Mine is paved,
therefore virtually no water is used for dust suppression on the haul road.
Other roads would include the road to the fan, coal stockpile area and the
road to the gob pile. It is estimated that an average of four each 3,000 gallon
water tank loads are applied to other roads each day for 8 months each year.
This equates to 8.9 acre -feet per year.
Pond Evaporation (lake evaporation) 31.38" net per year.
PR -14 2.04-120- 09/14
Surface Area Acres
Annual Evaporative Loss A -F
Au mentation Plans
Actual
Augmentation Plans
Actual
Pond A
0.00
0.00
0.00
0.00
Pond B
0.348
0.348
0.91
0.91
Pond C
0.305
0.305
0.80
0.80
Pond D
0.065
0.065
0.17
0.17
Pond J
0.620
0.330
1.62
0.86
Pond K
0.227
0.227
0.59
0.59
Pond F
0.271
0.271
0.71
0.71
Totals
1.836
1.546
4.80
4.04
PR -14 2.04-120- 09/14
