Pete Lien and Sons—Colorado Lien Division
Blasting Plan
Blasting Protocol
1. Quarry Superintendent will approve all drill pattern layouts before drilling.
2. When a drill pattern is completed, the Quarry Supervisor or Quarry
Superintendent will fax the shot diagram to the Contract blaster and set up a day
for the drill pattern to be loaded and blasted.
3. Prior to loading the blast pattern, the Quarry Supervisor and or the Quarry
Superintendent will discuss or setup the following with the Blaster in Charge:
• Any problem areas with the drill pattern
• The stemming depth that will be used to prevent fly rock.
• The area being loaded will be barricaded to prevent unauthorized entry.
4. The Contract Blaster in Charge is defined as:
• The single designated and licensed person with complete responsibility
and authority involving safe handling, use and on-site security of
explosives.
5. Once the blast pattern is loaded and a time has been decided to set off the blast,
phone calls will be placed to all local authorities and nearby neighbors to inform
of the blast time.
6. Blast times will always be after 9AM and no later than 5PM, Monday through
Friday.
7. Prior to blasting, the area will be cleared of all personnel and equipment.
8. The Quarry Supervisor or the Quarry Superintendent will help the Blaster in
Charge ensure the area has been cleared.
9. All blasts will be monitored with a seismograph.
10. Once the blast area has been cleared and secured, and all shot calls have made,
the Quarry Supervisor or Quarry Superintendent will make a final check by radio
with the employees stationed to secure the blast area and the seismograph
operator to verify readiness.
