Post-seeding weed control will depend largely on the types and amounts of weeds that emerge.
Generally, grazing should be deferred while seeded species are establishing; however, winter
annuals such as Japanese and/or downy brome could be suppressed with high stock density
"flash" grazing which would provide the additional benefit of improved litter incorporation. Other
weeds should be mowed to a height of 6-12"to suppress vigor and seed production while also
maintaining some canopy cover for shading and dissipation of raindrop energy. Noxious weeds
should be aggressively spot-controlled at all times.
Don't hesitate to contact us with further questions, and please keep us apprised of project
concerns and successes.
Thanks,
Stu McFarland
Rangeland Management Specialist
Ex h'I 6 A, 1 ) oT 7
