Using a previously excavated exploration pit, Clark completed the following
soil characterization:
Soil field investigation was done to determine topsoil depth on areas mapped as
Peetz, gravelly sandy loam, 5 to 20 percent slopes. These soils occur on terrace
breaks and gravely ridges deposited during the Tertiary Period associated with
the Ogallala Formation in Northern Weld County.
This soil pedon description was taken in a Peetz, gravelly sandy loam, 5 to 20
percent slopes map unit. It had 3 percent slope and was on a nose slope of a
ridge. The soil profile was moderately eroded.
This soil does not correlate to the Peetz component but can be managed similar
based on the somewhat excess drainage of the subsoil parent material.
Taxonomy: Fine-loamy, mixed, mesic aridic argiustolls
Location: -103.77706 N, 40.76593 W
Profile
A 0-2 in (0-5 cm) clay loam, 10YR 312 moist, 10 percent quartz gravels, 5 very fine
and fine roots
BA 2-4 in (5-10cm) clay loam, 10YR 2/2 moist, 10 percent quartz gravel, 3 very fine
and fine roots
Bt 4—8 in (10-20 cm) gravelly sandy loam, 20 percent quartz gravel, 2 very fine
and fine roots
213C 8— 18 in (20-46 cm)very gravely loamy coarse sand, 7.5 YR 4/4, 40 percent
quartz gravels
2C 18 -60 in (46-160 cm) extremely gravely coarse sand (stratified), 65 percent
quartz gravels
Helping People Help the Land
An Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer
EX kit b t t P5 a off ?
