11/17/2014 State.co.us Executive Branch Mail - Fwd: FW: MWNW and an illegal well that has to be removed
Regarding Linda Saunders' comments about the denials by DWR of the applications for these two wells,
Dale Baker indicated that the well apps were denied because the apps indicated that the water from the
wells was going to be used for relatively large -scale irrigation, and because the applicants didn't have the
water rights for that level of irrigation. According to Mr. Baker, Linda Saunders would likely receive
approval of an application for a domestic well for the MWNW monitoring well, so long as the water from
the well was used solely for domestic purposes, such as bathing, dish - washing, drinking, livestock
watering, and small -scale irrigation (1 acre or less).
Dan
---- - - - - -- Forwarded message ---- - - - - --
From: Zuber - DNR, Rob <rob.zuber@state.co.us>
Date: Tue, Oct 8, 2013 at 7:28 AM
Subject: Fwd: FW: MWNW and an illegal well that has to be removed
To: Daniel Hernandez - DNR <daniel.hernandez@state.co.us>
Here is another email to discuss. Let me know if you want me to contact Dale Baker at DWR and get his
opinion on this situation. After I talk to him, I may also want to talk to George about a plan to proceed.
This raises a general question about our obligation and policy regarding wells and permits with DWR. Susan
thinks that monitoring wells do not need to be permitted.
Thanks,
Rob
---- - - - - -- Forwarded message ---- - - - - --
From: Linda Saunders <saunders615@live.com>
Date: Mon, Oct 7, 2013 at 8:26 PM
Subject: FW: MWNW and an illegal well that has to be removed
To: "rob.zuber@state.co.us" <rob.zuber@state.co.us>
From: saunders615 @live.com
To: ronzuber @state.co.us; dale.bakera@state.co.us; tena@aol.com; paulacoulter comcast.net;
rich@ramunson.com; efcoal @gwestoffice.net
Subject: MWNW and an illegal well that has to be removed
Date: Mon, 7 Oct 2013 19:28:19 -0500
TO: George Patterson and Rich Munson Energy Fuels Inc
Ron Zuber, Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Dale Baker, Colorado Division of Water Resources
FROM: Linda Saunders, K2T Southfield mine
On Monday October 7th Bob and Linda Saunders met Dale Baker and another field inspector on site. MWNW
which was the North Entry Well original is know as 12508 AD (Application Denied) and Structure ID 125400 with
a tag and not a court approved augmentation plan in the Arkansas River Basin . It was used for dewatering the
mine from 1985- 1994.
This mine has now been blocked 15 -20 feet above the mine workings and damaged. It cannot monitor the mine
workings. A hearing is scheduled on Oct 16th on this violation. And the replacement of this well with a new
monitoring well in the same location into the mine workings.
And another illegal well is 8571 AD (Application Denied) which is also illegal and not permitted. It still has the
pump, metal and 3 PVC pipes and the electric box that was used for pumping. Was this the closed system that
EFCI used to dewater this area and pipe it to the west mains.
The Division of Water Resources inspector wants this equipment removed and they will return for a follow up
inspection. If any more illegal wells exist they need to know where they are located.
Please respond and remove the equipment that is SW of the Corley Ranch sign and 260 feet from the edge of
the road toward the refuse pile. When you notify me it has been removed, I will contact Dale for another
inspection.
https: / /mail.googl e.com /m ai I /u/0 / ?ui =2 &i k= e29129fcb5 &view =pt &search= i nbox &th= 149be700b823e9ff &si m l= 149be700b823e9ff 2/3
