40. Period of significance: The coal sales house appears to date only to the 1950s or so as evinced by its style,
materials and present condition); although the mining operation dates between 1903 -1974.

42. Statement of significance: The structure is directly associated with and has contributed to the significance of
the eligible King Mine site. It has contributed to the broad pattern of the historic development of the area
(Criterion A). The structure is, however, field evaluated as individually lacking sufficient integrity for listing on the
National Register of Historic Places.
43. Assessment of historic physical integrity related to significance: In terms of the seven aspects of integrity the
structure appears to retain only integrity of materials and design. Other aspects such as location, setting, and
feeling, have been compromised by the removal of the nearby associated historic townsite structures, the
construction of modern roads in the vicinity and the fact that the area no longer evokes the aesthetic or historic
sense of a past period of time. Modern mining occurs in the near vicinity and overshawdows any sense of
historic setting.

While the Coal Sales House structure is field evaluated as individually lacking sufficient integrity for listing on the
National Register of Historic Places, it has contributed to the significance of the eligible King Mine site. The
structure itself was previously included in a Level 11 HABS /HAER Documentation (Conner et al. 1996) and as
such no further work is recommended.
