October 23, 2014 C- 1981 - 035 /King Coal Mine MLT
• Tumbleweeds of various types cover the field south of the King II pond sediment pond. The
weeds have died off for the year, and the skeletons are likely to begin to break loose. The
Division suggests that mowing the field this fall might be an effective strategy to reduce the
number of weeds that blow northward become a nuisance in the site's culverts and ditches.
• An area north of the water tank bench at King II was disturbed this past year in order to
install the second tank. The ground has become covered with annual weeds (mainly Russian
thistle). This area should be graded and seeded with the temporary seed mix found in the
permit in order to stabilize the ground surface and control sediment erosion (and also prevent
the establishment of undesirable species).
AIR RESOURCE PROTECTION— Rule 4.17:
The main haul road at King II, receives a significant amount of low -speed truck traffic. The
surface was dry, and a gust of wind was able to pick up dust from the roadway. It may be
necessary to increase the frequency of water application, to better control any fugitive dust
(Photo 4).
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS /COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 4
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: I Page 4 of 6
