DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
Worthing Pit - Update Ve MINING AND SAFETY
M.L.R.B. Permit # M-1977-526
On behalf of my client Albert Frei & Sons, Inc . I am submit-
ting this correspondence to update and keep you appraised of what
Albert Frei & Sons , Inc . , is doing to investigate and mitigation
the ground water issues along the south end of the permit area.
The in ormation prove ed is also in response to the inspection
report I received on 10-22-14 and includes the actions taken from
the last update on 9/25/14 .
On 9/23/14 the surveyors were able to establish the water
elevations in the drain/historic river channel complex. Here
after I will refer to the drain/historic river channel complex as
the groundwater drain . The attached map is a portion from the
groundwater survey map showing the area discussed. Starting on
the west end and following around the south and east sides they
measured 5004 . 17 at the start of the groundwater drain, where it
entered the old river channel it was 5002 . 52 and at the north end
where the pipeline ROW owners installed the new pipe under the
road it was 5002 . 59 . This new pipe was placed on top of the
historic pipe elevating the height of the water approximately 13
inches, further restricting the natural drainage from the ground-
water drain. As a reference the groundwater elevation in moni-
toring well #8 in 2002 prior to slurry wall installation or
mining taking place on this end of the Worthing Pit, was 5003 . 8 .
Deere and Ault Consultants was retained on September 16 ,
2014 to do a site analysis and design plan for installing the
drain to the river . They completed their first draft of the
design and redlines have been made to make minor changes . When
complete they will be ready to go to Urban Drainage for review to
get permission to install the outlet across their ROW.
During a site visit yesterday (10-22-14) Ben Frei observed
that the water elevation was down by 2 to 3 inches in the ground-
