TR-07 RECLAMATION PLAN
(TR-07 Note: Recent experience has shown that plantings described above in sub-items 4
and 5 are rarely necessary as the desired plants naturally invade rather quickly.)
Wildlife Requirements and Considerations
REQUIREMENT 17. All recommendations of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the
Colorado Division of Wildlife will be taken into account in performing the reclamation.
REQUIREMENT I8: Even if the Fish and Wildlife Service or the Colorado Division of
Wildlife did not provide recommendations, adjustments to the reclamation processes, particularly the
revegetation portion, will be taken into account for each mining site reclaimed.
REQUIREMENT 19: Wildlife utilization of reclamation areas shall not be restricted. Fencing
of a site to keep out cattle should meet specifications to allow pronghorn or deer access. Grazing by native
animals rarely does much damage to revegetation. Fencing specifications that keep out cattle but allow
deer or proghorn access is available from the Colorado Division of Wildlife. These specifications will be
followed closely.
Discussion for TR-07. Experience has been recently gained regarding prairie dog impacts on
reclamation areas. A new and rather large prairie dog town became established adjacent to an older
reclamation area. Although the prairie dogs will utilize the first 10 to 20 feet of the vegetation in the
reclamation area, they rarely go far into that vegetation and few burrows have ever been found. This may
be due to the reclamation soils not having sufficient development yet to have the kind of structural
strength so a burrow does not collapse. Thus, prairie dog impact on reclamation areas is minimal.
REQUIREMENT 20: Control of wildlife damages to reclamation areas that threaten the
success of the revegetation (excessive prairie dog encroachment, hordes of mice, etc.) is allowed, but only
after consultation with the Colorado Division of Wildlife and implementation of their recommended
control measures. (See previous discussion TR-07 above regarding prairie dogs.)
Revegetation Requirements
OVERVIEW: The revegetation plan for the remaining area to be mined will strive toward creating a
functional, more or less native vegetation assemblage similar to that produced on older reclamation areas.
REQUIREMENT 21: Seeding will generally be done earlier than mid-November or later
than mid-April.
Coal Creek Sand Resource Amendment 3 (2005)- M-1988-044 Exhibit E Page 15
