October 16, 2014 C- 2009 - 087 /Peabody Sage Creek Mine JDM
the gate of Pond 003.
- Rodent burrows continue to be observed within the embankment of Pond 003
In an email to the Division dated October 17, 2014 from Scott Cowman of Peabody Energy, photographs of the
rodent burrows being addressed were submitted.
Ditches and culverts observed throughout the main facilities area are stable and functioning as designed with the
exception of the following:
Ongoing maintenance items identified during past inspections:
- Culvert SC -11 was addressed at the inlet; however, the inlet to — the middle of the culvert remains half -full of
material.
- Culvert SC -13 remains half full of material at the inlet.
-The silt fence along Ditch FA -D4 continues to require repair and re- installation as designed or, if only required
during construction, removal.
-The Coal Storage Area pad slope into FA -D1 near the electrical pad substation continues to require seeding or
erosion control may be warranted.
Additional items identified during this inspection:
- The ditch RC -D3 behind the portal pump station flowing to culvert SC -16 is designed to be a triangulated ditch
at a depth of 1.03 ft with 3:1 sides. The ditch has been addressed to meet this design. In addition, although water
appeared to be entering the SC -16 culvert, due to standing water in locations along the ditch a negative grade to
SC -16 is not uniform throughout the entire length of ditch RC -D3.
The spoil water relief borehole was open with a trickle of water reporting to the Portal 42 Sump. The Portal #2
Sump was not discharging into the Portal 91 sump at the time of the inspection.
Ditch repair work was completed for small rills associated with the SIIPM -4 Drainage area. These areas were
identified in the 2013 Annual Rill and Gully Report.
Pond 004 Pecoco Pond
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 3 of 7
