P.' M. , Jackson County, Colorado.
According to the Soil Survey of Jackson County Area,
Colorado the entire proposed site is a Cabin sandy loam. A
representative profile of the Cabin series shows that the Al
and B1 Horizons from 0 to 8 inches is capable of supporting
plant roots. Below 8 inches of depth only a few fine roots
are found. Therefore (1) (c) (i) you should specify that the
top a inches of soil shall be stockpiled separately to be
used as the plant growth medium to be replaced prior to
seeding.
In (1) (c) (ii) should specify fertilization at
recommended rates as determined by soil tests by at least
one independent laboratory. The soil test should specify
1000 pounds annual production of non-irrigated native
grasses. Should soil amendments be needed, they should be
applied by broad casting and disced in prior to seeding.
The seedbed preparation methodshould be discing.
Section (1) (c) (iii) should reference the attached seed
mix. The quantities for the seed mix were determined for
seed drilling. Species selection was based on the Range
Site Descriptions found in Section II of the NRCS Field
Office Technical Guide, tempered with recommendations found
in the Planting Guide for Critical Sites in Northwestern
Colorado, and considerable field experience with other
plantings in the local area. Seeding rates are determined
using NRCS Colorado Agronomy Note No. 61 , Seeding Rates.
In Section (1) (c) (iv) the seeding application method
should be by drilling.
