October 13, 2014
Mr. Michael Cunningham RECEIVED
Environmental Protection Specialist
State of Colorado nrT 13 2014
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215 DIVISION OF D SAF qq
ININGgN ps y
Denver, CO 80203 MINING
Dear Mr. Cunningham:
RE: Gloria Z Mine, DRMS File #M-1984-094
In addition to the numerous issues and violations surrounding the operation of the
above mine, I would like to take this opportunity, while they have been temporarily
restricted in their activities,to address the following:
• Adverse effects to wildlife in the surrounding area
As a nearby homeowner with property directly uphill from the mining operations, I
have seen some strange animal behavior this fall. Most specifically, large rodents
marking their territory and attempting entry into my house, smaller rodents,
raccoons, and increased activity of owls and vultures. I had to hire a pest control
company to help with the rodents. Their opinion is the constant vibration from the
mine might have driven rodents to seek new housing uphill.
The change in mining operation this summer has certainly resulted in a stressful
disturbance to the nearby homeowners. It makes me wonder what effect it is having
on the wildlife. Is this something that is monitored? Were there any negative
results from the recent breech into the river?
Your continued vigilance of these activities is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Ann Lukacs
614 Quarry Road
Fairplay, CO 80424
970-390-8568
cc: Mr. Mark Lamb, Colorado Parks&Wildlife
Mr. Tom Eisenman, County Manager, Park County
Mr. Eddie Kochman, Chair, Park County Advisory Board on the Environment
Mr. &Mrs.John Schmidt, Homeowners
