• V.1.4.g Evaluation and Follow-up. Each revegetated area is regularly evaluated in order to
determine species and plot success. Specific recommendations are developed from the yearly
evaluations. The recommendations will indicate necessary follow-up operations, such as
overseeding and fertilizer treatments.
Maintenance of revegetated areas will be considered following periodic monitoring. The need for
maintenance will be predicated on the following criteria:
• observed disturbances resulting from grazing, animal traffic, vehicular traffic or other use.
• observed disturbance resulting from wind or water erosion
• failure to establish the desired predominant species, mix of species, or life forms.
• observed evidence of poor moisture retention.
• the presence of noxious or extensive invasion of undesirable weeds.
Appropriate maintenance operations, such as interseeding, weed control, erosion control, mulching,
or supplemental treatments will be performed at appropriate times following monitoring.
• Reports from the evaluation along with recommendations will be included as part of the annual
reclamation report. Included with the reclamation report will be planting specifications and
maintenance activities for the evaluated sites completed for that year. Evaluations will be
completed during years 1, 2 and every 3rd year thereafter for sites larger that degas drill pads and
roads until phase II bond release is approved. The smaller sites will be inspected during years 1,
2 and every 5rh year thereafter until phase II bond release is approved. If problems or concerns
arise with a particular site more frequent evaluations may be necessary.
V.1.4.h Riparian Revegetation. Subsequent to construction of the Deserado Mine, Water Users
Association No. 1 built and filled Kenney Reservoir (aka Taylor Draw Reservoir). Water from the
reservoir backed up to the alluvial wells creating a wetland area that did not previously exist. About
four (4) acres should be revegetated with a riparian seed mix supplemented with woody plant
cuttings as discussed below.
Forbs and Grasses
The areas to be revegetated with the riparian species listed below are areas where the soils are wet
or moist throughout the growing season. The most favorable locations include streambanks, ponds
and lake shorelines, marshes and ditches. The grass species recommended are a combination of
bunchgrass and sod-formers that tolerate short-term inundation and a wet moisture regime.
Several of the species also have good to fair tolerance of salt conditions. These species are also
u
Mid-Term Review 2002 (8/2002) V-45
