Operations on Prime Farmland <br />The Bowie No. 2 Mine will not disturb or affect any prime farmland. <br />XIX. Mountaintop Removal <br />This section does not apply to the Bowie No. 2 Mine permit application. <br />XX. Operations on Steep Slopes <br />The main haul road, Gob Piles 41, 92, and 94, and several gob vent boreholes are located <br />on slopes in excess of 20 °. The refuse areas, permitted under Rules 4.09, 4.10, and 4.11 <br />and being constructed as valley fill structures, will result in a variance from approximate <br />original contour. BRL has not requested, and the Division does not propose to approve <br />any variances pertaining to steep slope mining and approximate original contour for the <br />haul road or gob vent boreholes. <br />A. The Division does not propose to approve a variance from meeting approximate <br />original contour for reclaimed areas. <br />B. The applicant has not proposed to dispose of woody plant materials in the backfill <br />beneath the highwall (4.27.3(6)). <br />C. The Division does not propose to approve of the construction of an unlined or <br />unprotected drainage channel on backfill (4.27.3(7)). <br />D. The applicant has not proposed alternative specifications and practices for operations <br />on steep slopes and reclamation of these operations (4.27.3(8)). <br />E. Land above the highwall will not be disturbed in order to blend the highwall and <br />backfilled area, control runoff, provide access to the area above the highwall or <br />temporarily store overburden (4.27.4(3)). <br />F.
