Notice of Termination of Jurisdiction <br />The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has begun the process of terminating its jurisdiction <br />over the Sunlight Mine, Permit No. C- 1981 -046. The underground operation was operated by Garfield Energy <br />Corporation under the provisions of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. The affected area is <br />located in Garfield County, approximately 11 miles south of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The permit area lies <br />within Sections 28, 33 and 34 of Township 7 S, Range 89 W of the 6"' PM. The permit area consists of 180 acres <br />of which about 5.2 acres were disturbed and reclaimed by mining activities. Termination of jurisdiction is being <br />sought for the entire 180 acres. The surface and coal mined were under private ownership. <br />The Sunlight Mine is a formerly permitted mine operated by the Garfield Energy Corporation. The Mined Land <br />Reclamation Board revoked the operating permit and forfeited the reclamation bond in 1987. As provided for in <br />Colorado Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act, the Division assumed the task of accomplishing <br />reclamation of the site between 1990 and 1999. <br />Written comments, objections and requests for an informal conference or a formal public hearing before the Mined <br />Land Reclamation Board may be submitted to the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, 1313 <br />Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 within 30 days of the last publication of this notice. <br />
