Peabody
Peabody Energy
Seneca Coal Company
January 12, 2011
Mr. Jason Musick
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Seneca 11 Mine (Mining Permit C- 1980 -005) Well Abandonment Report
Mr. Musick:
29515 Routt County Rd. #27
Oak Creek, CO. 80467
(970) 276 -7003
Please see attached copy of the above referenced report. The report contains information for
abandonment of two bedrock wells; SW -41 and SOV -41. The wells were installed prior to mining at
Seneca II to monitor baseline groundwater conditions at seam depth and in the Wadge Coal overburden
above mining activities.
Both wells have been reclaimed (sealed and plugged with PVC casing cut below ground surface) using
bentonite pellets and cement. Although reclamation required very little disturbance, only a shovel to
expose the casing below the ground surface, the area was seeded once the casing was cut and excavated
material was replaced.
Abandonment of these wells and subsequent inspection should complete requirements for final bond
release and termination of jurisdiction of the Seneca II Mine permit. Remaining wells associated with the
mining permit are currently being used as monitoring points for other active operations.
Once you have had opportunity to review this submittal please feel free to contact me at 970 - 276 -7003
with any questions or comments.
B.
