PERMIT #: M- 1978 -283 <br />INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: TOD <br />INSPECTION DATE: September 10, 2014 <br />OBSERVATIONS <br />This inspection was conducted in response to a partial acreage release request (AR -01) that the Division of <br />Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) received on July 30, 2014. This inspection was conducted by Tyler <br />O'Donnell of DRMS. Walsenburg Sand and Gravel Company, the Operator, was represented by Gary Vezzani <br />during the inspection. <br />The Sand Arroyo Pit is located approximately 6 miles west of Walsenburg, Colorado. The Sand Arroyo Pit is <br />permitted as a sand and gravel pit. The approved permit area is 52.00 acres. The approved post- mining land <br />use is rangeland. <br />DRMS sent out notices regarding AR -01 to the owners of record of the affected land, the Huerfano County <br />Commissioners and to the Upper Huerfano County Conservation District on August 4, 2014 as required by <br />Construction Materials Rule 4.17. DRMS did not receive any written comments or objections to AR -01. <br />No recent mining or mining related disturbance was observed in the areas requested to be release from the <br />current permit boundary. It appears that the northeast portion of the area requested to be released could have <br />had a small historic sand mining disturbance. The northeast portion contained non - natural appearing features in <br />the land surface. However the possible remnants of historic sand mining appeared stable and well vegetated <br />with native or desirable species. <br />The request for a partial acreage release will be approved, notice of DRMS' decision regarding the partial <br />acreage release will be sent under separate cover.
