l
INSPECTION OF MINING OPERATION Al
✓Z
PIKE NATIONAL FOREST, SOUTH PARK RANGER DISTRICT
Inspection Date, Time: July 16, 2014; 13:00_pm
Claim Name: Macanite 8, Unpatented Mining Claim j; /Q S
Operator Name/Signature: Russell Painter/David Hanlin
Inspector Name/Signature: Amy Titterington, Geologist
Background:
Mr. Painter and his family have been prospecting on this claim since it was originally filed in 1998. There are
currently three small hand-dug prospects on the west central portion of the claim that have disturbed an area
approximately 8 feet wide by 50 feet long(400 sq ft). Mr. Painter would like to connect these prospect pits,
creating a trench that's approximately 20 feet wide by 60 feet long(1200 sq ft). Mr. Painter is proposing to use
mechanized equipment for his operation. Mr. Painter is in the process of revising/completing his Plan of
Operations, and expects to have it submitted by mid-August.
Remarks:
I met Russell Painter and his friend David Hanlin on site to discuss their proposed Plan of Operations for the
Macanite 8 mining claim. Mr. Painter is proposing to dig one trench approximately 20 feet wide by 60 feet long
across the Macanite 8 mining claim, connecting the prospect pits. Mr. Painter is proposing to use mechanized
equipment(skid steer, track hoe) for his operation. Mr. Painter plans to access his claim using USFS route 201,
which runs parallel to the trench site. There is a previously disturbed area just off the road, which would serve
as the parking area for equipment and trailers. I informed Mr. Painter that he would also need to contact the
State of Colorado (DRMS)regarding his proposed mining activities. The site is generally clean and well
maintained.
Recommendations:
Once a complete Poo has been submitted, I will begin the NEPA process and calculate a reclamation bond.
