WEED CONTROL PLAN <br />Purpose and Scope <br />L.G. Everist, Inc. <br />To control and /or eliminate prohibited noxious weed species from the permitted area in order to minimize <br />offsite impacts and help ensure that reclaimed lands will support the approved post mining land use. <br />This Weed Control Plan is for all L.G. Everist, Inc. mine sites throughout Weld County. <br />Applicable Regulation <br />Colorado Construction Materials Rule 3.1.10(6) states, <br />"Methods of weed control shall be employed for all prohibited noxious weed species, and whenever <br />invasion of a reclaimed area by other weed species seriously threatens the continued development of <br />the desired vegetation. Weed control methods shall also be used whenever the inhabitation of the <br />reclaimed area by weeds threaten further spread of serious weed pests to nearby areas." <br />Noxious Weed List <br />All plants considered to be noxious weeds by the State of Colorado and regulated by under the Division <br />of Reclamation, Mining and Safety shall be controlled and or eradicated as is required by the State and /or <br />Weld County. Some weeds recognized by the State as noxious weeds are listed below, however the <br />operator realizes this list may change. <br />Leafy spurge <br />Russian knapweed (thistle) <br />Hounds tongue <br />Canada thistle <br />Spotted knapweed <br />Hoary cress (White Top) <br />Musk thistle <br />Diffuse knapweed <br />Field bindweed <br />Plumeless thistle <br />Yellow toadflax <br />Salt Cedar /Tamarisk <br />Scotch thistle <br />Dalmatian toadflax <br />Russian Olive <br />Perennial Sowthistle <br />Perennial peperweed <br />Downy Brome (Cheatgrass) <br />Management of Noxious Weeds during Mining and Reclamation <br />The operator shall monitor affected and reclaimed lands for noxious weed infestations. If weed <br />infestation occurs on the permitted land, the operator may consult the state or county weed control <br />agency for additional weed control recommendations. <br />Management of these noxious weed species requires a long -term commitment and usually involves a <br />combination of control methods such as mechanical and chemical for success. <br />The operator will use a combination of methods for weed management on the site, which may include, <br />but is not limited to: <br />Control Methods During Mining <br />- Keep disturbance footprint as small as possible <br />- Disturb only the acreage to be mined in the upcoming field season <br />- Minimize number of roads and equipment storage areas <br />- Reclaim affected areas as soon as possible <br />- Minimize or eliminate wetted soils, create positive drainage at all times <br />- Slope affected areas to facilitate rapid drying of surface soils <br />- Convey water via pipes or other means to prevent wetted soils <br />STAR - DRMS- WeedControlPlan.docx <br />
