Inc. DIVISION OF RECLAMATION
Worthing Pit - Update MININGANDSAFETY
M.L.R.B. Permit-t-977-26
On behalf of my client Albert Frei & Sons, Inc . I am submit-
ting this correspondence to update and keep you appraised of what
Albert Frei & Sons, Inc. , is doing to investigate and mitigation
the ground water issues along the south end of the permit area.
In the ast up ate (9/5/14) we explained that once the Stagecoach
Pit investigation ended we would begin to look into this area
with the main idea to install a drainage ditch and/or pipe from
the historic slough/groundwater drain to the South Platte River.
Included in the commitment was a plan to review the current
groundwater drain trench to see if it needed additional improving
and/or redesign.
The proposed drainage structure would parallel the south
line of the water intake easement that bisects the southern
mining area. The idea is to construct the drain and improve the
trench and slough to establish a groundwater elevation that is at
or just below the historic groundwater elevations for the prop-
erty prior to backfilling.
Deere and Ault Consultants was retained on September 16,
2014 to do a site analysis and design plan for installing the
drain to the river. Albert Frei & Sons, will also be upgrading
the groundwater trench, if appropriate, along the east side of
the southern backfilled area as part of the project. Because the
drain will enter the river along a section where Urban Drainage
armored the river bank, they were contacted to see what was
needed to cross their easement and terminate the drain at the
river. They requested a conceptual plan prior to giving a go
ahead. Deere and Ault completed their site visit on last Friday
(9/19/14) and have started preliminary planning.
Gillian' s Surveying was retained to survey the location of
the drain and obtain the elevations Deere and Ault will use to
design the drain. They will also collect elevations along the
