Spring 2014 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mining Areas (E -Seam)
4.6.2 Location 3
During the spring 2014 field visit the mining face of E -seam Longwall Panel E5 was located
approximately 200 feet east of the MDW E5 -5 pad. Observation on the pad at the time found that
an over - saturated portion of a stockpiled of cut material had slumped. MCC personnel had
observed this slump on this pad more than two months prior to this observation and before the
longwall had been moved to Longwall Panel E5. This observation prior to mining activities in the
area demonstrate that this slump was the result of heavy spring moisture and not subsidence
related. Figure 6 shows the slumped area from the pad.
Figure 6. Spring 2014 easterly view of slumped stockpile above the MDW E5 -5 pad.
4.7 Traverse F -F'
This traverse originates along the south side of Dry Fork Road (Traverse C -C') and travels
southeastward parallel to the Dry Fork across mined portions of E -seam Longwall Panels E3 and
E4 and southward across mined portions of E -seam Longwall Panel E4 and unmined portion of E-
seam Longwall Panel E5. Thick soil and colluvium derived primarily from the Wasatch Formation
was observed along this traverse with an E -seam overburden depth from slightly less than 700 feet
to about 850 feet.
Previous subsidence - related observations along this traverse were observed both north and south
of the road paralleling Dry Fork near the turnoff to the MDW E3 -29 pad.
