Spring 2014 Subsince and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide d Dry Fork Mining Areas (E -Seam)
Accessible areas within the SOD and Dry Fork mining areas were visited, examined and
photographed during the spring 2014 field visit to document subsidence - related features observed
since the last field visit and to record newly observed features in the active mining areas for future
reference (Maps 1 and 2). Field observations were made from a 4 -wheel drive vehicle and by foot
to efficiently complete the required work
Thirteen photographic observation points had been established and used since 2007 to view and
assess changes that may occur as a result of mining (mostly within the B -seam mining areas).
Many of these locations had been used fbr annual comparative purposes even before being more
formally established. Beginning with the spring 2013 field visit, nine of these points have been
removed pending substantial changes in those areas. Four of the established photographic
observation points were maintained givers their location within, or overlooking, the E -seam mining
areas. The two points within the mining area (historically referred to as Photographic Observation
Points #12 and #13) were revisited and renamed as Photographic Observation Points #1 and #2.
An annually visited location overlooking the Dry Fork drainage and areas to the south (formerly
- Photographic Observation Point #6) was renamed Photographic Observation Point #4 (this
location requires some hiking and is only visited sporadically depending on availability of time).
The Minnesota Reservoir/Monument Darn overlook location (formerly referred to as Photographic
Observation Point #7) was renamed Photographic Observation Point #5. Three new locations were
established during the spring 2013 field visit. Photographic Observation Point #3 is located above
E -seam Longwall Panel E4 on the MDW E4 -14 pad with a view of the Dry Fork drainage above
the central portion of E -Seam Longwall Panels E2 through E7. Photographic Observation Point
#6 is above E -seam Longwall Panel E4 a4d provides an elevated overlook to the west into the Deer
Creek Drainage from its east side (i.e., western ends of E -seam Longwall Panels E3 through E7).
Photographic Observation Point #7 is an elevated overlook to the east from very near Photographic
Observation Point #6 that provides views of the central and eastern ends of E -Seam Longwall
Panels El through E7. Photographs from each of these photographic observation points are
generally collected each field visit (except as noted) and reproduced from time to time in reports
for comparison purposes to demonstrate consistency or an occasional change in the landscape.
831 - 032.795 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
