September 10, 2014 C- 1982 - 057 /Seneca II -W Mine JHB
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
The gully undercutting the erosion fabric on the south side of Shrub plot S -1 SWS -1 has been repaired and
armored with rip rap. This is an acceptable repair.
(Photo)
There was 1 black cow grazing south of the S -1 SWS -1 shrub plot in the southern expansion area.
SCC has repaired the gully on the south side of the undisturbed Aspen grove that had been noted in previous
inspection reports.
A newly identified gully was noted on the north side of the undisturbed Aspen grove. This gully is relatively short
100 feet long, but is narrow and deep, roughly 2 -3 feet deep. The inspector marked the head of it with a white
fiberglass electric fence post, and showed Dennis Bugai the general location on a map in the office. Due to its
narrow configuration and short duration, brush packing may be an effective fix for this feature.
REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
The reclaimed steep slope north of Pond 016 is establishing stabilizing vegetation well. The lower portion
of the very steep slope received a gravel mulch. This treatment is proving effective and shows no sign of rill
formation. The topsoiled portion of this slope exhibits limited perennial species establishment. This slope was
seeded in Fall 2013, so 2014 represents the first growing season since seeding.
TOPSOIL — Rule 4.06
Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3; Redistribution 4.06.4:
Topsoil stockpile T3 has patches of Bull thistle establishing on the north side of this area. Weed control
measures are needed.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED NA
OTHER (SPECIFY) NA
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS /COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 5 of 10
