2.0 MINE PLAN
At the time of this writing, Munger Canyon Mine has been reclaimed. The
portals have been sealed and backfilled, the ephemeral ditches have been restored
and lined with rip rap, the upper portal road has been reclaimed, and the refuse pile
has been reclaimed. Permanent seeding is scheduled to be done in September
2007. There is a portion of the topsoil pile and coverfill pile that have been left in
place and will be used to cover the refuse pile sediment pond when the sediment
pond is reclaimed after vegetation cover has been deemed adequate to control
erosion.
The operator will continue to maintain the Munger site in its reclaimed size
and configuration. Munger has been reclaimed as detailed in the permit application.
The coal from the Loma Loadout site was excavated and trucked to the
Munger mine site where it was backfilled against the highwall as described in
Section 3.0. The reclamation of the Loma Loadout and interim reclamation at the
Munger mine bench was completed during the fall of 2001.
2.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF MINING OPERATIONS
Mining activities at the Munger Canyon Mine began in 1977 under authority of
an exploration permit issued through the USGS. The activities were subsequently
permitted through the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board and the Federal
Office of Surface Mining.
Mining activities in the Cameo Coal seam established a mine that extended
about 2,500 feet into the reserve block. The exploration mine revealed that the
thickness and quality of the Cameo would not be constant throughout the area. The
coal seam pinched from ten feet thick to about five feet thick at the face. Quality of
the coal was effected by out of seam dilution in the thinner areas.
RN-05 2_~
09/07
