Whitewater Building Materials Corp. WW 500 PIT
Permit # M- 1977 -129 2014 Annual Report
22- September -2014
Notes:
Please refer to Map 1 of 2 and Map 2 of 2 when reviewing the following
information. The effective date of all information is August 25, 2014.
8. An additional 9.78 acres was stripped in Stage 3 - Part B southeast of the area being mined
(yellow). The topsoil along the north side of the excavated area remains undisturbed. This berm
serves two purposes, as a topsoil pile and an MSHA safety berm. We estimate there is approximately
48,000 yards of overburden stored in Stage 6 (not on map) and another 20,000 yards stored in Stage
3 - PART B (brown). These piles are in a constant state of flux with material being added and removed
as needed. The southern pile was moved to the top of the stage when stripping began on that area.
The settling ponds are still being used to clean process water (dark blue).
9. On May 19, 2013 the Division released Whitewater from Reclamation responsibilities on parts of
Phase 2(A) and Phase 2(B) south of the river. A revised Sheet 1 of 2 is attached showing the current
activities in the remaining mine area south of the river. We continued to backf ill the excavated area
on the north end of Stage 3 -Part B (2.34 acres) and to store overburden on the area and there is 4.12
acres of lake area that needs little reclamation since it will be covered with water. No additional
reclamation was required. We will continue to monitor the area seeded in Phase 2 - Part A, west of
the southern plant site and do remedial seeding if necessary.
10. Mining will move into the western side of Stage 4 - Part B this year (south of the railroad).
Approximately 10.0 acres will be stripped along the river and mining will begin. The mined material will
be staged in the area mined in Stage 3 - Part B before being moved to the plant for processing.
11. Backfilling will continue on the north side of Stage 3 - Part B, where an additional 2.34 acres was
completed this year. We are still placing overburden along the edges of the lake areas that are in
their permanent locations until the final grade is reached.
13. Weed control continued this year in the areas around Phase 2- Parts A & B and Stage 3 - Part B.
We sprayed Knapweed and White Top from May thru June 2014 with water soluble 2 -4 -D and Curtail
and a mowing program is also used to aid in control. This is still an uphill battle since there is little or
no control taking place on properties surrounding the mine and seed is being wind blown in from offsite
areas that we have no control over. Spraying will continue as needed. We continue to monitor Tamarisk
growth on the site and control as warranted.
16. The mine has approved Augmentation Plans for all of the post 1981 lake areas.
21. Please refer to the 2014 Annual Report Maps for location of the areas of disturbance in the mine.
