The land owner
has requested that we leave a small berm around the western edge of the pit floor to prevent
potential erosion from occurring. The landowner is concerned that water running off of the pit
floor to the west will start gully erosion along the face of the unmined slopes below the gravel pit
floor.
Weld County will leave the berm as requested by the land owner. The berm will be seeded with
the same native seed mix that is to be used on the rest of the site. Additionally, Weld County
will slightly slope the pit floor back to the east in an effort to prevent erosion along the western
site of the pit floor. It is expected that all of the grading and top soiling will be completed by the
end of August. We anticipate seeding and mulching the entire site between mid - September and
mid - October.
The landowner will not allow Weld County to fence the disturbed area in order to keep livestock
off of the reclamation. Weld County is committed to reclaiming the mined area but if the
landowner allows livestock into the permit area, it is going to be difficult to obtain the Division's
required level of vegetative cover.
Please call with any questions.
Sincerely,
Clay Kimmi, P.E., CFM
Weld County Public Works
Original: Division of Reclamation Mining & Safety
CC to File: Peters Permit File
VAF d- RPT S -1-15 /Ajo V/,JcjlonS
M: \Clay \GravelPits\Peters Pit \Peters No 2 Pit Technical Revision Cover Letter.doc
RC
s
 Fp p
NNG RFC
S,gFgTjN
