EXHIBIT D
MINING PLAN
PICKENPAUGH GRAVEL PIT (M- 1978 -078)
Operation commenced 1978 and was initially scheduled to terminate in 2015. Due to
catastrophic flooding in that portion of our county, the gravel within our permitted area
was quickly depleted, with much more required to repair the damage to our county roads
This 112 conversion is now required, and the life of the site will advance until 2022.
The depth of the salvaged topsoil to be used for reclamation is to be 3 -4 inches thick. The
topsoil for this site is to be located within the pit boundary to be used for reclamation of
areas depleted of sand and gravel. Each stockpile will be stabilized with a vegetative cover
of fast growing prosso millet if the need arises.
The thickness of the overburden ranges from one foot to five feet. The thickness of the
sand and gravel to be mined varies from six to twelve feet.
Major components of the mining operation consists of the mining pit, haul road, as well as
overburden, topsoil, and gravel stockpiles.
No water will be used in conjunction with mining operation.
Mining will continue in a Northwesterly direction. Sand and gravel will be the only resource
mined.
Mining will continue in the downward direction until the sand and gravel has been
removed, and that the loamy clay stratum beneath the sand and gravel is exposed. At this
point, mining is terminated in a downward direction.
A berm in the Northeasterly border of the pit will be maintained to prevent stormwater out
flow.
Measures taken to minimize disturbance to the hydrologic balance consists of the mining
operation to expose a minimal amount of surface area for mining at any given time. As
excavation continues the disturbed area is to be back sloped to mitigate runoff
possibilities. The lower area of the operation is flat and porous enough to slow any runoff
from the operation. The soil in the affected mined area should not present any reclamation
problems with standing precipitation due to its porous consistency. The land surrounding
the mine is range and the proposed future use is to be the same.
There will be no processing done on -site. No hazardous materials will be stored on site.
Refueling of Road and Bridge equipment will also take place off -site.
