Topsoil Fill as specified in Section 3105 13. <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br />3.1 LINER EMBANKMENT CONSTRUCTION <br />The completed liner embankment shall be to the lines and grades shown on- the Drawings. <br />A. PLACING <br />The Contractor's operations, including handling and placing of the <br />embankment materials, shall be such as to prevent segregation of the <br />materials. <br />B. FOUNDATION PREPARATION <br />1. The embankment footprint, and key trench preparations are specified in this <br />Section. <br />2. The Contractor shall allow sufficient time prior to final foundation <br />preparations to allow for observations and geologic logging of the exposed <br />foundation and key trench as outlined in Sections 01 30 00 and 01 70 00. The <br />schedule for this work shall be coordinated with the Engineer to prevent <br />delay in final foundation preparations and fill placement or rework of <br />prepared surfaces or exposed bedrock. <br />3. No materials shall be placed in any portion of the liner embankment or <br />keyway trench until the foundation for each section has been unwatered, <br />cleared, grubbed, stripped, suitably prepared, and approved by the <br />Engineer. <br />4. All portions of excavations made for test pits or other subsurface <br />explorations found within the liner foundation areas which extend below or <br />beyond the established lines of excavation for liner embankment <br />foundation, shall be filled with compacted earthfill. <br />5. All joints, cracks, fractures, cavities, depressions, and irregularities, either <br />existing or resulting from foundation excavation and preparation and exposed <br />within the footprint of the liner shall be cleaned of all loose infilling materials <br />and debris to expose firm native as specified herein for general foundation <br />preparations. The final cleaning and condition of the exposed surfaces shall meet <br />the intentions these foundation preparation specifications and observed by the <br />Engineer for determination of acceptance for placement of backfill. The void <br />space and openings resulting from the removal of the loose infillings and debris <br />shall be filled with Zone I embankment material conditioned at zero to three <br />percent over optimum moisture content (per ASTM D698) and compacted so to <br />meet the minimum compaction sections presented herein for this material. <br />6. Embankment shall not be placed on a foundation which contains frozen material, <br />or which has been subjected to freeze -thaw action, dessication or damage by <br />NCCI Pit #1 Reservoir Liner - Technical Specifications Fill <br />312323 -2 <br />
