T o /74 t,
STATE OF
fn (q g 317 -6
Photos
Rob Laird <RobL @asphaltspecialties.com> Mon, Aug 25, 2014 at 1:59 PM
To: "O'Donnell - DNR, Tyler" <tyler.odonnell @state.co.us>
Hi Tyler:
So here is the latest:
1. We broke thru into the S &G mostly on Saturday I am to understand and then finishing to the south
this morning on 8- 25 -14. See attached pics. The first shows the length and depth of the trench. You can
see the contact between the S &G and the OB on the left side if the pic in the sunlight. You can see the
flow in the trench. The second pic shows the southern terminus of the trench in relation to the business
across the street. You can pick out these buildings on various maps in the file. The trackhoe in the distance
in the first pic is cleaning out the trench and stabilizing sides, etc. starting at the end at the lake and
moving upstream. That should be done today.
2. The wells have dropped: as of this morning, MW3 -AS is at 15.35 ft. (14.5 ft. on 8 -18) and MH -9 is at 13.6
ft. (12.6 ft. on 8 -18). lam guessing they will continue to drop for a day or two.
3. The old temp trench continues to flow as you saw it on 8 -4 -14. It is ponded in places and flows rapidly
over constrictions /high points. It is almost exactly as you saw it on the 4th
4. 1 called Levi Kirby for an update and he just called me back. He has said that he measured the drop in
the sump in the basement say between the 19th and 21St and the water level dropped %to 1 in. every
day. The pump has not kicked on for at least a week. He will be at the home tonite and will measure the
level in the submersible pump bore to see if there is any more drop.
5. Lyle Gurley pumped his sump pump in his well vault only once last Monday the 18th. I stopped by
today to see what was up, but he was not in. I'll find out if he has pumped since the 18th
That is it for now. I will be monitoring the wells every day this week. It will be interesting to see if there
are any rapid changes in the monitoring wells and Kirby's basement after the supposed next two days of
rain.
I am working on a weed mitigation plan for the site, but need confirmation from the DRMS what is wanted
for info and maintenance on this new trench (if any), since we are abandoning the old "temp trench ". You
had requirements for elevations and maintenance to the old temp trench, but what about this new one?
Thanks for your attention to this matter. Rob Laird
