F t-6 Yf,-,1ry
As discussed previously, triaxial shear testing on a sample of the gob indicated a
drained friction angle of 30 °. However, due to the limitations of the testing apparatus,
triaxial shear testing can only be completed on the sand, silt, and clay fraction of the
material. Based upon our observations of the gob material, there is a significant
percentage of larger material and the large particles will tend to increase the shear
strength of the material. For the purposes of modeling, a friction angle of 30° was used
for the gob in the analyses. However, it is important to note that this value is
conservative as the actual shear strength of the gob is likely higher than indicated in the
laboratory testing.
Based upon the available data, the following parameters were utilized for the
compacted gob.
• y =104.6 pcf
• c' = 0 psf
• ' = 30°
Native Foundation Soils
Based upon the information in the referenced report, the following parameters
were utilized for the native foundation soils.
• y = 125 pcf
• c' =0psf
• ' = 30°
4.3 Piezometric Surface
Table 1 - Summary of Groundwater monitorine
Borehole
ID
Elevation -Top of
Pie
5/17/2013
Water
Level
Depth to groundwater
5/17/2013 12112/2006" 1/31/2007'
FBG06-01
(Ft.)
5891.9
(FL)
5843.9
(Ft.)
48.0 Dry
(Ft.)
57.5
BG06.02
5929.7
5913.5
16.2 19.1
19.0
BG06 -03
5916.7
5882.35
34.4 39.3
33.9
BG06 -04
_
Pipe broken off
and filled with dirt 36.9
27
BG06 05
5888.9
NIA
Dry Dry
D
BG06 -06
5697.0
WA
Dry Dry Dry
BG06 -07
5902.5
N/A
Dry Dry
Dry
' Data shown In Buckhom Geotech Stability analyses dated March 29, 2007
•• All piezometers have been plugged and are no lon r in service
. One of the piezometers (BG06 -2) installed on the north.edge of the gob pile #3
footprint indicated groundwater at an elevation of 5913.5 feet. The other piezometer
(BG06 -03) installed in the northern portion of the gob pile footprint encountered
groundwater at an elevation of 5882.35 feet.
