Seneca II also possesses an NPDES Permit issued by the Colorado
Department of Health for discharges from the Pond 008 outfall, separate from the mining permit. This
revision includes termination of monitoring at the following remaining sites associated with Seneca II as
follows:
• Well GW -S41 -W • Stream Site SSF11
• Well GW- S41 -LW1 • Stream Site SSB12
• Well GW -S68 -A • Stream Site SSF13
• Well SFAL72 (also known as Twentymile
Coal Company Well 008 -AU -3)
Seneca II transferred all monitoring wells located in Sage Creek's Pond 004 and Pond 002 basins
(formerly part of Seneca II) to the Peabody Sage Creek Mine (SMP No. C- 2009 -087) as a part of PR02-
2010. The remaining wells associated with the reduced permit area for Seneca II are located in the Pond
008 basin and downstream from Pond 008 on Bond and Fish Creek.
A Phase III application (SL -6) for all remaining disturbance related to mining was submitted on June 1St
2014 and an inspection of the permit area was completed by the Colorado Division of Reclamation
Mining and Safety (CDRMS) on August 18th, 2014. Justification for termination of monitoring is
addressed in the Hydrology section of the bond release application and also as a part of TR47 which was
approved in 2009 (Attachment 7 -3, Tab 7 of the Seneca II permit document).
Following issuance of a final decision from the CDRMS, the groundwater monitoring wells will be
reclaimed and abandonment reports will be submitted with the exception of Well SFAL72 (aka Well 008 -
AU-3) which was established as the alluvial ground water point of compliance in TR -47.
