Diversion Ditches
Adequacy Response #1, Addendum - Addition of 1/2 Culvert
Permit C- 1996 -083
Dear Ms. Burgmaier:
CIVIL ENGINEERING
CONST. MANAGEMENT
After a site visit Thursday August 7 and a meeting with the contractor who will be constructing the
ditch, a deficiency in the proposed east diversion ditch design was discovered. On behalf of Bowie
Resources, LLC, please accept this addendum to the August 5, 2014 adequacy response.
The initial phase of construction will be extending the West Diversion ditch #1 up the draw, north of
the gob pile #2 area and connecting it to the new east diversion ditch. As this draw is gradually filled
in with gob and progresses to the south, a steep transition channel will be created between the new
east diversion ditch and the existing east diversion ditch. This transition channel will be constructed
on about a 3HAV. The difference in elevation between the new east diversion ditch and the existing
east diversion ditch will be approximately 50' vertical and vary as the ditch construction progresses.
Since this transition channel will be temporary and moving as the east diversion ditch construction
progresses, a half culvert will be installed and moved as the location of the ditch changes.
The design of the half culvert is conservative, utilizing 100% of the flow for the East Diversion ditch.
A 30" 1/2 culvert will provide for 0.80' flow depth and 0.45' of freeboard.
Please see revised page App. B -2, and new pages App. B -68 to App. B -69 which provide a design
for the temporary half culvert.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
t Tamme Bishop, P.E.
Project Engineer
Cc: Bill Bear, Bowie Resources, LLC (electronically)
Paonia Public Library
Bureau of Land Management (electronically)
US Forest Service (electronically)
