Wildcat
4nin
gs.mr.M Corporation
xc sxr
1.0 Introduction
This report presents the results of a supplemental geotechnical investigation (SI)
performed for a section of the existing access road at the May Day Idaho Mine Complex located
on County Road 124, Hesperus, La Plata County, Colorado. This investigation supplements the
following reports:
• Report, Geotechnical Reconnaissance, Idaho Mine Access Road, Durango,
Colorado, dated May 29, 2010, prepared by R Squared, Inc (included as Appendix
A).
• Rule 6.5 Geotechnical Stability Report, New Access Road, dated April 2, 2012,
and prepared by Wildcat Mining Corporation (included as Appendix b).
The April 2°d report concluded that cut-fill road section appears to be in cut, with fill
placed over bedrock on the resulting bench and on the outslope. The purpose of this SI is to
confirm this conclusion.
Construction Plans for the New Access Road were prepared by Carrol & Lange-Manhard
of Centennial Colorado, dated June 20, 2013. Included in these plans is the Access Road
Retaining Wall design, prepared by Wilson Structural Engineering of Durango, Colorado, dated
May 8, 2012. The portion of the Construction Plans pertaining to the retaining wall (Sheets SI
through S4) are presented in Appendix C.
2.0 Supplemental Investigation
This SI was conducted April 23-24, 2014, and included excavating four test pits (RC-01
through RC-04), at the approximate locations shown in Figure 1. (Figure 1 also shows the
location of test borings and test pits completed in 2012.) The purpose of the SI was to confirm
that bedrock beneath the roadway extends to or beyond the outboard edge of the planned
retaining walls.
Test pits were excavated with a backhoe and extended approximately 4 to 19 feet deep.
An experienced engineer logged test pits, took photographs of the completed test pits, and
obtained samples of the materials encountered for laboratory testing. Test pit logs are presented
in Figures 2 through 5; test pit photographs are presented in Appendix D.
3.0 Findings
A summary of the conditions encountered in each of the test pits is presented below.
Wildcat Mining Corporation
112(d)Permit—May Day Idaho Mine Complex
Wildcat Mining Corporation, 3926 N. State Highway 67
Sedalia,CO 80135 Office: 303.832.7664
