Golder
Associates
June 17, 2014 Project No. 1400159
Mr. Eric Scott
Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: REQUEST FOR TECHNICAL REVISON OF PERMIT M-1977-348: CHANGES TO THE
ANALYTICAL LIST FOR GROUNDWATER SAMPLING AT THE BOETTCHER QUARRY
Dear Mr. Scott:
On behalf of Holcim (US) Inc., Golder Associates Inc. (Golder) is submitting this request for a technical
revision to permit M-1977-348 to modify the suite of constituents included in the groundwater monitoring
program for the Boettcher Limestone Quarry located at 3060 West County Road 56, LaPorte, Colorado
80535.
The laboratory analytical results for sampling events from 2011 through the 1"quarter of 2014 have been
provided under separate covers. Additionally, a comprehensive summary and interpretation of the results
is presented in the Groundwater Characterization Report for the site dated April 28, 2014.
Changes to the analyte list were discussed in the May 28, 2014 meeting between Golder, Holcim (US)
Inc. and the Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety (DRMS), as summarized in the May 30, 2014
DRMS memo. Golder reviewed analytical results in order to determine which constituents have generally
remained below their respective benchmark level and/or not been detected above their respective
detection limit. Based upon a review of the data collected to date, dissolved arsenic, chromium, copper,
lead, selenium, thallium, zinc and fluoride are recommended to be discontinued from the groundwater
monitoring program. Attachment 1 provides concentration versus time plots for these analytes for
sampling events conducted through the 1st quarter of 2014. Table 1 contains the proposed suite of
constituents to be monitored in wells MW-1 through MW-7.
If you have any questions or comments about this request, please contact the undersigned at
(303)980-0540.
Sincerely,
GOLDER ASSOCIATES INC.
IAA 4 F— . ►')'!
