Resource Number: 5DT1053 (Coal Sales Building)
Temporary Resource Number: GRI 2014 -35
39. Area(s) of significance: Industry (mining)
40. Period of significance: The coal sales house appears to date only to the 1950s or so as evinced by its style,
materials and present condition); although the mining operation dates between 1903 -1974.
41. Level of significance: National State Local X
42. Statement of significance: Although the structure is directly associated with an eligible site that has contributed
to the broad pattern of the historic development of the area (Criterion A), the building itself is considered non -
supporting due to its lack of integrity.
43. Assessment of historic physical integrity related to significance: In terms of the seven aspects of integrity the
structure appears to retain only integrity of materials and design. Other aspects such as location, setting, and
feeling, have been compromised by the removal of the nearby associated historic townsite structures, the
construction of modern roads in the vicinity and the fact that the area no longer evokes the aesthetic or historic
sense of a past period of time. Modern mining occurs in the near vicinity and overshawdows any sense of
historic setting.
VII. NATIONAL REGISTER ELIGIBILITY ASSESSMENT
44. National Register eligibility field assessment:
Eligible X Not Eligible Need Data (for the site as a whole)
The Coal Sales House structure is field evaluated as non - supporting of the overall integrity of the site and no
further work is recommended.
45. Is there National Register district potential? Yes _ No X
Discuss: The area does not warrant historic National Register district potential.
If there is National Register district potential, is this building: Contributing _ Noncontributing X
46. If the building is in existing National Register district, is it: Contributing _ Noncontributing
VIII. RECORDING INFORMATION
47.
