Louis Head, New Elk Coal Company
Page 5
July 22, 2014
Wildlife Habitat (Riparian). For this particular area the currently approved version of Map
15 suggests that the Post - Mining Land Use is Rangeland..
ii. In several locations (for example, on the south side of the river opposite DWDA2, and on
the north side of the RDA) the "Disturbed Area (refuse)" area exceeds the green "Surface
Disturbance" boundary — presumably this is a cartographic error that can be rectified, rather
than a case of refuse being deposited outside of the approved disturbed area.
Please update Map 15, taking into accounts the issues (i) and (ii) above.
18. Map 10 plant communities
Two versions of Map 10 have been submitted in conjunction with TR68, dated 10/18/2013 and
3/26/2014. Neither version is ideal, but the format of the earlier version has more value since it uses
vegetation classes described in section 2.4. 10 of the permit (baseline vegetation). If Map 10 is to use an
alternative set of vegetation classes the background information about plant communities in section
2.4. 10 would need to be updated. It may be more efficient to use the older version of Map 10, but to
complete the polygons delineating the different communities. This could potentially be completed using
aerial photography to identify the boundaries of the different communities.
Please update Map 10 taking into account the above comments.
19. Drill hole map
Map 23 was submitted which appears to have the necessary information. The colors, fonts and
placement of labels make the map quite difficult to read, these elements should be improved the next
time the map is updated.
20. Consolidated drill hole table
The response is sufficient.
21. Maps vs. on- the - ground discrepancies
The response is sufficient.
22. Mapped location of structures at facilities area
The revisions made to the maps depicting structures, roads and facilities are sufficient. Remaining
discrepancies are trivial and can be corrected as the Maps are updated with future revisions.
23. Map 14 — West Portal Sediment and Surface Water Control
The revisions made to the Map 14 are sufficient. Remaining discrepancies are trivial and can be
corrected as the Map is updated with future revisions.
24. RDA
The response is sufficient.
25. Development Waste naming conventions
The response is sufficient.
