Surface facilities shall be designed, built, monitored, and operated in accordance with industry best
practice to ensure the surrounding environment is protected in accordance with the BLM and EPA
regulations and applicable mining, environmental, and other laws related to above ground storage tanks
for petroleum and chemical products. The use of skid-mounted facilities is anticipated for much of the
RD&D operations.
Item No. 6.A. Drill Pads
The main well pad configuration (OSR well pad) is intended to accommodate a centralized process
equipment area (measuring 200 by 200 feet) and up to three OSR wells. This pad area is anticipated to
be roughly triangular in-shape, with each side being approximately 500 feet in length if all of the OSR
wells are eventually drilled. If all three OSR wells are drilled the total well pad disturbance would be
approximately 3.4 acres. Contingent upon the success of the initial OSR operation, an additional 3 to 4
acres in future well pad disturbance may be considered for additional testing. Total disturbance is
anticipated to be less than 10 acres. NSHI intends to drill the initial OSR-1 well near the west portion of
the OSR well pad. One or both of the optional OSR locations may be used if it is determined that the
OSR-1 location is unsuitable or if it is determined to continue the project because of the success of the
OSR-1 location. Access to the well pad would be via a short spur road extending from the northeastern
corner of the triangular pad to an existing road. The DS-6 monitor well pad (to be constructed) was
permitted and bonded with the DRMS under Technical Revision 35 to NSI Drilling Activity Permit M1983-
194.
Item No. 6.C.
