Forrest Luke, TMI
Page 3
7/29/2014
Three ground -water monitoring wells are proposed to be added in the northeast
comer of the permit addition area. These wells would be completed in the alluvial,
HI and QR aquifers in the permit extension area.
Further relevant discussions to the hydrologic regime of the expansion area will be
covered in the 2013 Annual Hydrology Report, including extended Water -Level
Elevation maps depicting the extent of subsurface water and overall geologic
trends.
ii. Division's Response: Trapper's Permit section 2.7.5; Pre - Mining Conditions —
Ground Water, indicates baseline investigations covered the western portion of the
permit area, i.e. the area from Pyeatt Gulch west. In 1985, baseline information
was collected to cover the eastern portion of the permit area, i.e. Pyeatt Gulch and
the area to the east. Specifically, Sections 2.7.5.1 and 2.7.5. la, Sections 2.7.5.2
and 2.7.5.2a as well as Sections 2.7.5.3 and 2.73a, contain the baseline
groundwater information for the current permit area. The sections with an (a) at
the end of the section number covers the eastern permit area. Trapper's response to
the first adequacy review indicates that there are changes to the groundwater
regime within the expansion area, though not dramatic. The response also
indicates relevant groundwater information will be updated with the annual
hydrology report. Baseline groundwater information should be included in permit
section 2.7.5 that currently contains this information and not solely in the Annual
Hydrology Report. Prior to the approval of PR7, Trapper will need to add
information about the ground water regime required in Rule 2.04.7(1)(a) to the
permit section 2.7.5 which contains the baseline groundwater information. At this
time, this item remains outstanding.
iii. Trapper's Response #2: Please see the attached permit pages (2 -4141, 2-
414m, 2 -520ww to 2- 520zz, 2- 520aaa to 2- 520zz, 2- 520aaaa to 2- 520gggg, and
2 -523y) updating Sections 2.7.5.1, 2 and 3 with new sub - sections and data
addressing baseline groundwater information in the eastern expansion area.
Map series M54 has also been updated with current ground water elevations
for the entire mine including the permit expansion area.
iv. Division's Response: Trapper proposes to revise /replace maps M54, M54B and
M54C. These maps currently contain the baseline water -level elevations for the
former permit area from 1986. The Division would like to retain these baseline
water elevation maps as part of the permit. The new maps depict the 2013 or 2011
water elevations for the "SS ", HI and the QR aquifers throughout the permit area
including the expansion area which is required, but these maps should be submitted
in addition to the current maps and should not replace them. Please re -title these
maps within the M54 series and update the table of content accordingly.
