Based upon the review of the test for significance and the environmental analyses conducted, 1
have determined that the Little Snake North Timber Sale and Fuels Reduction Project is not a
major federal action and that its implementation will not significantly affect the quality of the
human environment.
Findings Required by Other Laws and Regulations
This decision to address forest health concerns by treating approximately 4,856 acres with
silvicultural and fuels reduction treatments is consistent with the intent of the Forest Plan's long-
term Goals and Objectives listed on pages [1-1 to 1-2]. The project was designed in
conformance with Land and Resource Management Plan Standards and incorporates appropriate
Land and Resource Management Plan Guidelines for Management Areas 5.13 Forest Products,
5.11 General Forest and Rangelands—Forest Vegetation Emphasis, 4.3 Dispersed Recreation,
and 7.1 Residential/Forest Interface, (Land and Resource Management Plan, pages 2-44 to 2-46,
2-39 to 2-41, 2-36 to 2-38, and 2-50 to 2-52).
The analysis area involves no roadless areas, and no proposed alternatives would affect roadless
areas or roadless area character.
The proposed treatments would meet the adopted visual quality objectives (guidelines) when
design criteria measures are followed in all of the analysis area except for units located in the
foreground on National Forest Service Road's 500, 550, and 412; County Road 129; and Forest
Trails 1101, 1147, 1149, and 1197. These areas would appear as modification or maximum
modification visual quality objective (VOO) instead of partial retention VOO. The treatments
would allow for quicker regeneration of new lodgepole pine forest stands and move towards the
desired scenic condition of the Little Snake geographic area in shorter time.
Implementation Date
No objection was filed during the 30-day objection period for the Little Snake North Project. By
publishing this Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact in a Legal Notice,
implementation may begin immediately following the publication of the legal notice.
5
