COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural resources
17 July 2014
Tom Bird, Manager of Coal Services
GCC Energy, LLC
6473 County Road 120
Hesperus, CO 81326
Re: King Coal Mine (Permit No. C- 1981 -035)
Review of Water Sampling Data
3rd Qtr 2011 thru 2 u Qtr 2014
Dear Mr. Bird:
The Division has received and reviewed GCC Energy's quarterly Well and Surface Water
Sampling Analyses spanning the dates listed above. Our review found the reports satisfied the
requirements for frequency of analysis and the reports contained the required content. The data
indicated no water quality compliance issues.
Samples are collected once per quarter from the Wiltse Well (King I Mine) and from three
locations at the King II Mine: 91 Up- gradient Monitoring Well; 92 Down - gradient monitoring
well; and #3 Hay Gulch Irrigation Ditch. Laboratory analyses were conducted by Green
Analytical Laboratories in Durango, and the Chain of Custody records were attached.
For the 2nd Quarter 2014 sampling effort, I accompanied the GCC Energy employee throughout
the process. My observations were documented in the Division's Inspection Report for June 23,
2014.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Best regards,
Marcia L.
