B. Depth of topsoiling- Soil depth was variable and ranged from about 8 to 10 inches
to about 18 inches.
C. Final grading of topsolled lands - Prior to soil distribution the land being reclaimed
was graded into a rolling topography as described previously. Steeper slopes and
incompatible irregularities were removed to produce a topography with gradual
transitions.
3. Accommodation for drainage - Drainage in recently completed portions is stable with only
a small amount of sheet erosion and minor rilling.
4. Revegetation - Approximately 32 acres of land was seeded with the designated seed
mixture. Seeding was done by drilling and was performed in mid-June. Soil moisture at the
time of seeding was good and with all the moisture received in May and earlier, the soil was
moist to considerable depth. If the moisture had not been so good, seeding would have likely
been delayed until late August.
5. Status of Prior Revegetation Areas-
A. Status of newest seedings as of report date- On July 1 little germination of grass had
occurred, but that is expected with the species planted as they tend to be somewhat
slow to germinate. A few native species contained in the soil were noted but the
numbers were insignificant and cover minuscule.
E. Status of older revegetation as of report date (describe growth rates, cover, invasive
species, native invasion, and difficulties) - In June 2012, all older revegetation sites
that had not been released were inspected by the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety(DRMS). All areas were approved for release. Therefore, these areas are no
longer covered by bond and now fall under the purview of the lease requirements only.
All of the older revegetation areas remain in excellent condition and with the abundant
moisture in May showed excellent growth of all species on July 1. No problems were
noted.
Individual Reclamation Areas: The newest reclamation area described previously is still
far too young to make any comments.
F. Description of animal impacts on revegetation: No significant animal impacts
were noted. Prairie dogs do harvest vegetation from nearby reclamation areas, but their
impacts are minimal and burrows are not made in reclamation soils. This is probably
because the reclamation soils do not have the structural strength yet to support the
creation of stable burrows.
Status report for 2014 due July 15, 2014 Page 7 of 10
