2.7.5.3b Ground -Water Levels, Eastern Expansion Area
The ground water elevations of the eastern expansion area are depicted in the current Annual
Hydrology Report and Map series M54. Current projected potentiometric elevations from the 2013 AHR
(Tit -113) were used to develop the updated M54 map series. Subtle variations in the geologic setting as
detailed in permit sections 2.7.5.1, 2.7.5.1a and 2.7.5.1b indicate some changes in the location of the
potentiometric contours as the aquifers progress to the east. Additional monitoring will better define
the areas. Future analysis of the area will be included at a future date in this section.
Within the eastern expansion area the same principles of subsurface water flow and the hydrologic units
detailed within permit sections 2.7.5.3 and 2.7.5.3a can be applied to the area. Preliminary modelling of
the coal seams and strata present in the expansion area do not indicate any drastic change to the
established hydrologic units of the Upper Williams Fork Formation. Subtle variations may occur
anywhere in the aquifer but current modeling utilizing the H, I and Q seams was used to extrapolate
water level elevations for Map M54 within the eastern expansion area. A subtle arc of the geology to
the northeast carries the potentiometric surfaces in the same general direction. In this area the Big
Bottom Syncline is diminishing and the northerly dip of geologic strata begins to level out when
compared to the existing permit area. The area continues this trend as the strata continues east for
some distance. Current water level elevations taken within the far eastern portion of the existing permit
boundary are relevant to the eastern expansion area. Wells such as GP -7 and 8 have shown only slight
natural variations in water elevation for many years. Long term water elevation data is contained in the
current AHR (TR -113) in Appendix W of the permit.
Revision: P - n 7
2 -523y
Approved.
