West Elk Mine 2013 Annual Hydrology Report 26 <br />3.2.1 Springs above the F -Seam in the North Fork of the Gunnison <br />River Drainage Basin <br />3.2.1.1 Spring 24 -3 <br />Spring 24 -3 is located in the West Flatiron drainage that is the first tributary entering <br />Raven Gulch from the west, which is tributary to the NFGR. This spring monitors the <br />West Flatiron B -seam longwall panels (West Flatiron mine panels area) and the Box <br />Canyon B -seam longwall panels (Box Canyon mine panels area) (Map 2). This spring <br />issues from a sandstone bed above the F -Seam, flows seasonally, and is typically dry or <br />nearly dry in the late summer and fall months. Monitoring at this spring began in 1998. <br />3.2.1.2 Springs E -13 -1, E -13 -2, E -13 -3, E -13 -4 <br />Springs E -13 -1, E -13 -2, E -13 -3, and E -13 -4 are located in the lower West Flatiron <br />drainage that is the first tributary entering Raven Gulch from the west, which is tributary <br />to the NFGR. These springs monitor the Box Canyon and West Flatiron mine panels <br />areas (Map 2). These springs issue from sandstone beds above the F -seam, flow <br />seasonally, and are typically dry or nearly dry in the late summer and fall months. These <br />springs have been monitored since 2003. <br />3.2.1.3 Spring 26 -1 <br />Spring 26 -1 is located in an unnamed drainage on the west side of Deep Creek between <br />the Upper and Lower Deep Creek monitoring stations (Map 2). Deep Creek is tributary <br />to Raven Gulch and the NFGR. This spring is located above the southeast mine panels <br />area and issues from a sandstone bed above the F -seam. This spring has perennial flow, <br />but shows strong seasonal variations with high flows in the spring months. Hydrologic <br />monitoring at this spring began in 1996. <br />3.2.1.4 Seep E14 -1 <br />Seep E14 -1 is located in upper Box Canyon which is tributary to the NFGR. This seep <br />was permanently covered by drill -pad construction in WY 2006 and has not been <br />monitored since. <br />3.2.1.5 Spring 27 -1 <br />Spring 27 -1 is located in upper Sylvester Gulch, which is tributary to the NFGR, (Map 2) <br />and feeds an area known as "twin ponds ". This spring issues from alluvial sediments and <br />is located above the southeast mine panels area. Hydrologic monitoring measurements <br />from this station are taken at the end of a corrugated plastic drain pipe. Hydrologic <br />monitoring at this spring began in 1996. <br />3.2.1.6 Spring G -7 <br />Spring G -7 is located in a western tributary of Sylvester Gulch and is situated above the <br />northeast mine panels area and north of the southwest mine panels area (Map 2). This <br />spring issues from joints in a sandstone ledge and has perennial flow, but shows strong <br />seasonal variations with high flows in the spring months.
