COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE -
FISH SALVAGE
From: Puttmann,Rachel
To: Neil Thomson
Cc: Dawson,Jeffrey;Friesen.Crain
Subject FW:Sandy Acres Lake
Date: Friday,June 20,2014 11:06:20 AM
Hi Neil-
See Paul's email below regarding schedule and coordination for on the ground access/logistics for salvage.
Thanks,
Rachel Puttmann
URS Corporation I I Division I Ecology and Risk Assessment
8181 E.Tufts Avenue,2nd Floor I Denver,CO 80237
Direct:303.740.3803
Cell:720.403.0916
rach el.ou ttm a n n Ca)u rs.com
bA, Please consider the environment before printing this email.
From:Winkle-DNR,Paul[mailto:paul.winkie@state.co.us]
Sent:Wednesday,June 18,2014 10:57 AM
To:Puttmann,Rachel
Cc:Dawson,Jeffrey
Subject:Re:Sandy Acres Lake
Rachel,
Sandy Acres was never a public water,so we do not have any information on it as far as current or historic fish populations. As far
as I know it was always a private fishing lake. I do not have any information either on what was stocked in there over the years.
As far as a salvage,it would consist of setting trap nets and daytime boat electrofishing. Any gamefish we collected would be
moved to nearby public ponds or lakes. Rough fish(e.g.carp,suckers)would not be removed. Salvages of this type(i.e.,trap nets
and electrofishing)can go either way,we might collect a lot of fish,or not,so we won't know until we start how many fish we
might be able to move. If we're successful, the salvage might take place over 1-2 weeks on and off. If not successful,we'll know
after a few days.
I'm not sure who I'll need to coordinate with on-the-ground for access and logistics for the salvage,so can you forward this to the
applicable person(s),including Neil T.? I'd like to begin the salvage in July,if that works with the project schedule. Let me know.
Paul Winkle
Aquatic Biologist-Denver Metro
Colorado Parks and Wildlife
6060 Broadway
Denver,CO 80216
303-291-7232
naul.winkleastat co- s
On Thu,Jun 12,2014 at 10:02 AM,Puttmann,Rachel<rachel.puttmann urs.com>wrote:
Hi Paul-
We are working on a project for E-470 at Sandy Acres Lake near Brighton(see screenshot below for location)and Neil Thomson
(with E-470)passed along your contact information to us.
For our report,we had some questions regarding the history of the lake. Do you know when/if the lake was stocked? With what
fish? Was this site ever used recreationally for fishing,or just privately? Also,Neil mentioned that CPW will salvage the fish from
the lake before they fill it,what kind of process is that? Will the fish be moved to another nearby lake?
