Of the species listed above, potential
Northern leopard frog habitat and snowy egret foraging habitat is found within the Project area. In addition, the
edges of the pond could provide a limited amount of migration stopover habitat for shorebirds (piping plover,
least tern). However, any use birds is likely to be rare and short-term, as more likely suitable habitat is located
elsewhere.
GENERAL EFFECTS
The E470 Authority intends to fill Sandy Acres gravel pit pond, which will permanently affect approximately
1.26 acres of wetlands and approximately 31.6 acres of open water. Waterfowl and fish habitat will be removed.
Because wetland and water habitat will be eliminated, upland grassland habitat will expand.
According to CPW personnel, all game fish (does not include sucker or carp species) will be salvaged and
transported to other ponds and lakes (Winkle pers comm 2014). There would be no effect on migration routes
for wildlife. The prairie dog colony located on the east side of the Project area may be disturbed by increased
human activity during construction/filling; however, the town will not be directly affected. After the Project has
been completed, the colony may expand due to the increase in grassland habitat.
7
