Thistle and Houndstounge were noted in several areas of the RPEE. The operator indicated that
a contractor has been recently employed on site for spraying and mitigation. Signs of spot
spraying were evident. Continued monitoring will be needed.
Signs and Markers (Rule 4.02):
The mine identification sign at the entrance from State Highway 133 is intact and contained all
necessary information in accordance with 4.02.2. The topsoil stockpile was marked in
accordance with 4.02.7.
General Compliance:
All areas were clean and orderly at the time of inspection. No disturbance to areas outside of the
permit area was noted. No compliance issues were noted and no enforcement actions were taken
as a result of this inspection.
Maintenance items identified during inspection:
• Reseeding is needed on the top embankment at the RPE Pond (east cell).
• Continued monitoring and weed mitigation will need to be continued.
• Ensure that reseeding efforts regarding the topsoil stockpile are successful to minimize
any potential wind/water erosion. If germination is not timely, a reseeding will need to
be rescheduled.
• Maintenance of the rilling observed along the toe of Bench 1 at RPEE should be
scheduled to ensure overall stability.
• Maintenance on the steep slope (east side of RPEE) regarding the dilapidated fiber
matting material and straw waddles will need to be scheduled as well as any reseeding
that may be necessary.
