2. Permitting. Are they in complete compliance with their permit?Did they have to obtain
a Special Use Permit? Doesn't a Special Use Permit need to be `compatible with the
area?' How is this compatible with the use of heavy industrial equipment being so close
to a residential community? Has this area been over-mined, since this quarry has been
constantly mining across Hwy 9 for years.
3. Legal times of operation. Is there a state, county or local ordinance against noise
beginning at 8 a.m. every day of the week, including Saturday and Sunday?
4. Inspection by the Air Quality Control Commission as to the health hazards on the
effected community from the excavation and crusher emissions(as stated above).
5. Water. Inspection as to the entire operation of the gravel pit and its use of a `water pit'
on the property, into which flows a muddy, polluted stream of crushed rocks on a
constant basis. Is this sediment migrating and polluting our ground water and our once-
pristine water aquifers from which our wells feed water into our homes? Do they have
the proper water rights for this operation?
As stated previously, in addition to the obvious dust, fumes and noise emanating from this gravel
pit, we are also most upset about the degradation of the landscape across from our subdivision.
It has ruined the aesthetics and natural beauty of the mountain area by our homes and continues
to have a detrimental effect on our property values. No one wants to live or move to Beaver
Ridge with the noisy, dusty, unhealthy and aesthetically unpleasing quarry across the road.
Please present the above concerns to the Park County Board of County Commissioners and
implement the above inspections as soon as possible. Quarry mines should not be allowed to
operate near residential neighborhoods where the peace and quiet and health of its residents is in
jeopardy and the resulting scar on the landscape ruins the aesthetics and the property values of
its homeowners.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Eileen dt r
ohn Schmidt
189 Abandonedrail Road
Beaver Ridge
